Vilho Lampi (1898–1936) was a Finnish painter known for his bold expressionist style and depictions of his home region, the Ostrobothnian plains. He was deeply inspired by rural life, nature, and the stark landscapes of Finland, which he portrayed with intense colors and strong brushwork. His self-portraits also reveal a psychological depth and introspection.
Despite his talent, Lampi remained relatively unknown during his lifetime. He struggled with mental health issues and tragically took his own life at the age of 38. His work gained greater recognition posthumously, and he is now considered an important figure in Finnish modernist art. His legacy lives on through his striking paintings and the impact he had on later Finnish artists.
